Objectives / Project Summary

EU CargoXpress is going to develop a groundbreaking innovative cargo vessel to meet the expectations of green transport and contributing to decongesting of Europe’s roads.

The vessel Concept Eu- CargoXpress goes far beyond existing approaches from aspects of

  • ship equipment (combined superstructure with bridge, crane and sail)
  • new propulsion concept (superconducting energy conversion, PODs)
  • ship structure (lightweight fit for serial production)
  • maintenance( modularised/standardised and "boxed' equipment for immediate exchange rather than repair on board)
  • ship operation (sailor in home base, through fixed routes)

 

CMT’s work in CargoXpress:

  • Developing a high-tech vessel for the EU-Cargo-Transport. CMT will contribute first ideas on structural lightweight design, and facilitate permanent interaction between this and the work package on lightweight structures.
  • Innovative lightweight structures for CargoXpress. CMT leads the work package. CMT will organize the Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification with partners and subcontractor (DNV), will contribute to the development of the lightweight structure, and will carry out structural analyses with the use of FEA
  • Next step planning to implement the results. CMT will contribute production cost assessment done in the work package on lightweight structures; will contribute his experience on LCCA from other projects,
  • Dissemination to EU-Maritime Community. CMT will monitor other research projects with similar content and makes proposals for cooperation between CargoXpress and those projects. Finally, CMT will support the WP Leader to structure and edit the Plan for Using and Disseminating Knowledge.
